Use this sample itinerary below to inspire your own custom-designed journey.

General about the “out of africa” tour

  • Nairobi. Manzili House

Manzili House in Nairobi serves as an ideal complement to a safari adventure, providing a serene and secluded homestay retreat. Nestled in the tranquil suburbs of Langata, adjacent to the Nairobi National Park, Manzili House offers a peaceful escape. It serves as a perfect jumping-off point for exploring the wonders of both urban and wild Kenya.

Consisting of two charming houses, Manzili, the main house, and the smaller Manzili Ndoto. Manzili House is centered around a picturesque courtyard and inviting swimming pool. Each house features a wellappointed bar, lounge, and dining area, with décor that beautifully blends classic European elements with the unique Swahili architecture found in the Lamu archipelago.

On the rooftop terrace, guests can unwind amidst large white stone tables and comfortable furnishings, perfect for enjoying sundowners and soaking in the tranquil ambiance.

The larger house, Manzili, boasts four ensuite double rooms, accommodating a maximum of eight guests, while Manzili Ndoto offers two rooms, accommodating four guests. The accommodations exude warmth, luxury, and sophistication, with private verandas in all rooms. Both houses feature spacious open-plan kitchens, inviting sitting rooms, and lounges complete with cozy fireplaces, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay for all visitors.

    Angama Mara.

Set on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, there is little that is conventional about the creation of Angama Mara, with views that stretch as far as the eye can see across the Maasai Mara set 1,000ft below. The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle, with 1.2km of Rift Valley frontage, its own forests and game a-plenty. The rare beauty of the site has an emotional effect on visitors — an almost dreamlike quality of being somewhere ‘between heaven and earth’. No Tented Suite has the best view, nor the worst — all are spread along the edge of the Rift Valley

The lodge’s 12-metre rim-flow Swimming Pool overlooks the Mara, surrounded by deck chairs, the perfect spot to bask in the sun with a good book.
Around the corner is the Fitness Room with a selection of Technogym equipment — with floor-to-ceiling stacking glass doors — you will be hard-pressed to find a treadmill with a better view in all of Africa.

Angama Mara serve ‘classical safari food’ — simple yet delicious, fresh and filling, with more than a nod to local Kenyan cuisine. The menu changes every day and is always à la carte. For those interested in tasting some of  team’s favourite foods, you’ll enjoy our Kenyan platter: nyama choma, ugali and kachumbari( not to be missed!). There’s no lack of food and no shortage of places to dine either, from your Tented Suite to out and about in the Mara Triangle. Nothing can compete with a picnic in the middle of nowhere, served under a lone tree on the short-grass plains of the Maasai Mara with only giraffe, elephant and buffalo as your dining companions.

  • Almost all East African safari roads lead to Nairobi, and luckily, it is the perfect place to start your safari holiday and experience Kenya’s vibrant culture and warm hospitality. With our Guide to lead the way, we encourage you to explore this thriving metropolis and fall in love with the beating heart of Kenya.

During your stay you will have a chance to experience Nairobi from a local perspective together with a local guide. All the activities can be tailor made according to your personal interests and preferences.

For the ultimate experience we highly recommend to book a hot-air balloon safari in Masai Mara.

Enjoy an iconic African experience: a hot-air balloon safari over the Maasai Mara. See the Mara from a different perspective, spot wildlife from above and enjoy the beautiful sunrise all from the basket of a balloon in the sky. Once you’ve settled back to earth, toast with a celebratory champagne breakfast under a tree, somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

This is a shared, festive affair with platters of breakfast favourites such as bacon, eggs and pancakes. For guests who would prefer a more private experience, we can arrange for a picnic breakfast to be enjoyed without a soul in sight.

  • Named after the Maasai people who have lived in the area for generations, the Maasai Mara reflects this proud and indomitable people. Throughout the year, the Maasai Mara is pulsing with life; around July-September of each year, millions of wildebeest and thousands of zebra flood the plains. This natural phenomenon is the world’s biggest Great Migration. The rolling grasslands mean game-viewing is easy, and the abundance of animals makes this one of Africa’s most exciting game reserves.

Regardless of when you visit, the Mara is a non-stop adventure thanks to the abundant wildlife viewing. The Mara is a world-renowned Big Five destination with exceptional populations of lion, leopard, thousand-strong buffalo herds, the rare black rhino and a thriving elephant population.

It is in the Maasai Mara that you can truly hear the call of the wild.

Renowned for its lion prides, the Mara is also home to the other members of Africa’s Big Five — leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino — which can be seen together with hyena, cheetah and bat-eared fox. The Mara River churns with numerous pods of hippo and some of Africa’s largest crocodiles. Everywhere there are photographic opportunities: topi perched on anthills, Maasai giraffe moving gracefully across the plains, and gazelles grazing peacefully amongst Coke’s hartebeest, impala and herds of lovely eland, Africa’s largest antelope.

Alongside these incredible animals are over 470 bird species, each with unique calls and colourful plumage. No matter the time of the year, we assure you there will be plenty of opportunities to use your binoculars or camera.

A game drive into the Mara Triangle is at the heart of your safari holiday. Shortly after leaving the lodge, you’re in vast grasslands dotted with acacias, surrounded by more animals than you can imagine: from Africa’s Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo — to the massive herds of the Great Migration.

The question is often asked, ‘When is the best time to visit the Mara?’ To be truthful, there is not one correct answer, as safari travellers to the Mara are assured of astonishing and abundant wildlife sightings all year round. For guests wanting to experience the Great Migration and the dramatic crossings of the Mara River, July through September or October are the best months to visit. Others prefer a gentler time with fewer visitors and to have the Mara all to themselves — together with the numerous resident herds which quite rightly do not deem it necessary to leave this beautiful reserve by embarking on the annual trek to Tanzania.

    The Great Migration

It’s the largest land-based animal migration on Earth: more than a million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras in a year-long cycle en masse in search of nutritious grasses that grow after the rains — to the delight of the Mara’s hungry predators: lion, leopard, cheetah and massive crocodiles.

July into October are the best months to see the Migration

Angama Mara is just 45 minutes from the main crossing point, so you’re sure to be one of the first in position for the dramatic Mara River crossings

Traditionally, in many other places in Africa, safaris take place twice a day at specific times. At Angama, we aim to tailor-make your safari days with you, exploring this unique non-stop extravaganza of astonishing and abundant wildlife, often taking a picnic breakfast or lunch with you. Because the weather is generally mild, there’s never a bad time for a game drive.
